Our family is very interested in your bilingual program. At what point should we apply?

Applications for the next school year are accepted through the end of March of each school year.  We recommend to contact the EFAC director as soon as possible to indicate interest in the program. Registration for Abraham Lincoln Elementary School (ALES) and Lincoln Park High School (LPHS) requires proof of residence in the district . To ensure the quality of the teaching environment, EFAC requires that a child’s knowledge of the French language match the current grade level. It is essential that French is spoken natively by at least one person in the immediate environment of the child.

EFAC has no particular requirement for fluency in English. Students are fully immersed in an English-speaking environment and will learn the language gradually and naturally. A special program, ESL ( English as a Second Language), is offered over three years by the American school for non -English speaking children. Experience shows that three years are typically necessary to achieve written and oral bilingualism.

EFAC, the French-American School of Chicago offers the French Ministry of National Education’s scholastic program, integrated within the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system. The school covers all levels from Kindergarten to 12th grade (with certification through the French level CM2 and the opportunity to take the French section of the French Baccalauréat).
